Projects can also be "self-initiated, very expensive, and public to the public." Megaprojects need sponsorship in the development process to minimize risks in project implementation that may lead to changing strategies. Examples of megaprojects include bridges, tunnels, highways, railroads, airports, ports, power plants, dams, sewage projects, special economic zones, oil and natural gas extraction projects, public buildings, information technology systems, space projects, and weapons systems.
